Google reviews for business: how to get more and how to reply

Google reviews affect who gets the call. How to ask for them properly, reply to every one and handle the bad ones.

When a customer searches Google for a local provider, the reviews show right on the card. Three stars and two reviews tell a different story from five stars and thirty. Reviews have become one of the main reasons someone calls you or a competitor.

Why do Google reviews matter?

  • They affect how high you show on the map and in local search.
  • They build trust before the customer gets in touch.
  • AI assistants use them as one source when recommending local businesses.

How to get more reviews

1. Ask right after the job

The best moment is when the customer is happy. Send a text with a direct link to leave a review. The easier it is, the more people do it.

2. Ask politely and in your own words

Write the message in your own voice: thanks for the job and a request to share the experience. Do not hand over ready-made texts or ask only for five stars.

3. Make it a routine

Add the request at the end of every job, with the invoice or the last message. A steady flow of reviews beats a batch collected all at once.

How to reply to reviews

  • Reply to every one, including short five-star reviews.
  • Say thanks and mention something concrete about the job.
  • Reply to a bad review calmly, politely and fast. Offer a solution, do not defend.
  • Remember that future customers read your reply too.

What not to do

  • Do not buy or write reviews yourself. Google removes them and the profile can be penalised.
  • Do not give a discount in return for a review.
  • Do not filter to ask only the happy customers. It goes against Google’s rules.

AI and reviews

When AI answers "who does X near me", it looks at reviews among other things. Fresh, genuine reviews help. Nobody can guarantee a recommendation, but the foundation is worth getting right.

Frequently asked questions

How many reviews do I need?

There is no magic number. More important than the count is that reviews arrive steadily and get replies.

Can a bad review be removed?

Only if it breaks Google’s rules, for example if it is fake or inappropriate. Otherwise the best approach is to reply politely and collect new reviews.
